Why We Made Our Own Silicone-free Furniture Polish
Silicone-free care matters more than most people realise! For years, we stocked and sold a furniture polish called Spray Glow, originally manufactured by Mirotone. It was one of those rare products we genuinely trusted, not because it was popular, but because it worked with fine furniture, not against it.
When Mirotone ceased operations, Spray Glow disappeared almost overnight. We sourced an alternative that was perfect, then the manufacturer discontinued production. Stock ran out and the calls kept coming.
So we made a decision that felt both obvious and daunting:
If we couldn’t find a furniture polish we trusted, we would make our own Australian made furniture polish.
That decision led to Artifex Enviro Glow, a silicone-free, non-aerosol furniture polish designed specifically for real furniture, real homes, and real longevity.
Here, we explain why we made it, what sets it apart, and why using the right furniture care product matters far more than most people think.

The problem with “most” furniture polishes
Most off-the-shelf furniture polishes fall into one of two categories:
-
Silicone-based
- Residue build up
- Chemical Damage
-
Aerosol-based and classed as dangerous goods
They’re designed to create an instant shine. And they do, temporarily. But that shine often comes at a cost.
Silicone: the invisible long-term issue
Silicone is commonly added to furniture polishes because it:
-
Creates immediate gloss
-
Repels dust and fingerprints
-
Makes surfaces feel smooth
The problem? Silicone doesn’t just sit on the surface.
Over time, it builds up in microscopic layers that:
-
Attract grime beneath the surface sheen
-
Make future refinishing or repairs extremely difficult
-
Interfere with stains, oils, lacquers and touch-ups
-
Cause fisheyes and adhesion issues during refinishing
In factories like ours, where furniture is built to last decades, not years, silicone contamination is one of the most frustrating (and costly) problems we see.
Once silicone is introduced, removing it is difficult, time-consuming, and never guaranteed.
Why this matters for our clients
Many of our clients own:
-
Solid timber dining tables
-
Veneered cabinetry
-
Custom joinery
-
Lacquered or hard wax-oiled finishes
-
Modern furniture
Using the wrong polish can quietly undermine all of that craftsmanship.
We didn’t want to sell a product that looked good in the short term but compromised furniture in the long term, and we didn’t want to recommend a third-party brand we couldn’t fully vouch for.
So we stopped looking for a replacement, and started building our Australian made Silicone free Furniture polish.
Why we chose to make our own
Creating a furniture polish from scratch is not a quick decision. It required:
-
Working with Australian manufacturers
-
Defining a clear performance brief
-
Testing formulations across real furniture finishes
-
Ensuring export compliance and safety standards
-
Choosing packaging that aligned with our values that is 100% recyclable
We weren’t interested in private-labelling a generic cleaner. We wanted something purpose-built for:
-
Furniture makers and lovers
-
Interior designers
-
Joiners
-
Homeowners who care about longevity
That meant being clear about what Enviro Glow would not contain.
What Artifex Enviro Glow does not contain
Enviro Glow is deliberately:
-
Silicone-free
-
Wax-free
-
Non-aerosol
-
No VOC
-
Safe for sealed timber, veneer and lacquered finishes
These were non-negotiables.
We wanted a product that could be used confidently on furniture we make and furniture we didn’t, without introducing long-term issues.

What it does do
Enviro Glow is designed to be a maintenance polish, not a disguise.
It:
-
Cleans lightly without stripping finishes
-
Leaves a natural, streak-free finish
-
Reduces static and dust attraction
-
Maintains the integrity of the original surface
-
Allows future refinishing or repairs without complications
In short, it supports furniture rather than masking it.
Why trust matters, especially with furniture care
Furniture care products like furniture polish and Furniture Wax sit in a strange category. They’re often bought quickly, used frequently, and questioned rarely.
But the reality is this:
What you put on your furniture today affects what can be done to it in ten or twenty years.
As Australian made furniture makers, we see the long-term consequences of product choices most people never witness. That perspective carries responsibility.
We didn’t create Enviro Glow to chase trends or fill shelf space. We created it because:
-
We could no longer rely on discontinued products
-
We refused to compromise on silicone-free care
-
We wanted full transparency and control
-
We wanted our clients to trust what they were using
- We want to be able to ship our product internationally
If we’re prepared to use it on our own tables, cabinetry and joinery, we’re prepared to stand behind it publicly.
A product born from necessity and intention
Enviro Glow exists because a trusted product disappeared, and because we believe furniture deserves better than quick fixes.
It’s Australian-made.
It’s considered.
It’s honest.
It reflects the same principles we apply to everything we do at Artifex: thoughtful design, long-term thinking, and respect for materials.
You don’t need dozens of furniture products.
You need one you can trust.
Enviro Glow is ours, and now it’s yours too.
We haven’t forgotten your heirloom pieces. Artifex will soon be releasing a microcrystalline wax designed specifically for valuable period antiques, alongside additional products under our Artifex proprietary range, including fabric protectors and cleaners. Every product meets our stringent standards, shaped by over 30 years in furniture manufacturing and close to 80 years of combined skilled craftsmanship.
If you care about the furniture you live with, how it ages, and what can be done to it in the future, choosing the right care product isn’t a small decision. It’s part of the story your furniture will carry forward.
