Days like these

A small group of three relax on the coastal rockery. Their elevated perspective offers a sweeping view of the beach below and sand dune and hilly terrain beyond. On the sand, beach goers enjoy the sunshine from the comfort of beach chairs, while couples emerge from the sea refreshed after a swim, and a father walks carrying his small child in his arms. The coastal landscape is abstracted in such a way that it conveys a feeling of the oceans' movement. Lauren Esplin masterfully uses colour and expressive markings to convey the landscape, not as it is, but as it is felt. The environment is juxtaposed by the finer details of the figures, a signature of Esplin's distinctive style.
