Made local, made to last’ is the driving ethos behind Artifex Interiors, manifesting in pieces treasured not only for their aesthetic but for their durability and craftsmanship. This co-existence of quality and technique underpins each piece and has led to the brand’s unrivalled success.

Artifex Interiors was born from Founders Anthony Sergas and Scott Lander’s hunger to command the quality and durability of fine furniture pieces. Located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the brand has been a leader in furniture manufacturing since 1995, specialising in making handcrafted pieces from natural sustainable materials that define understated luxury. Artifex Interiors is known for being dedicated to crafting carefully designed, quality products that reflect an appreciation of where materials come from and the role furniture plays in creating a meaningful space.

Taking pride in crafting high-quality, Australian-made furniture constructed to withstand the test of time, Artifex rejects the idea that furniture is disposable and, as such, emphasises sustainability across the board.

Taking pride in crafting high-quality, Australian-made furniture constructed to withstand the test of time, Artifex rejects the idea that furniture is disposable and, as such, emphasises sustainability across the board. All furniture is made by hand and all materials are sourced ethically. Artifex utilises the imperfections through the manufacturing and handling process to create a multifaceted finish – this is the beauty of owning a handcrafted piece.

Waste is also minimised, with off-cuts made into chopping boards, bowls or wooden toys, and any pieces that cannot be used are bagged up for firewood. Artifex aims to support the local community in every aspect of the business by drawing on local services, designers and artists. Materials used include Tasmanian blackwood, American white oak and American black walnut, which are prioritised and complemented by marbles and brass or powder coat metal finishes. They also support local Australian craftspeople through the development of a house of brands. It is important Australians buy Australian-made furniture, not only for economic health and to support employment, but also because skills and techniques will be lost if we no longer support local manufacturing.

The Artifex Interiors wide range of products and custom work contributes to its distinctive standing.

The Artifex Interiors wide range of products and custom work contributes to its distinctive standing. Carefully detailed furniture ranges from hardware to dining tables and pieces for every room in the home, bearing all the hallmarks of a handmade item. The team’s craftsmanship draws on over 80 years of combined experience, offering an ability to execute difficult technical elements and an encyclopaedic knowledge of timber and the history of furniture. A recent collaboration with SJS Interior Design launched in 2021 similarly showcases a collection of carefully curated products, designed by SJS and made by Artifex Interiors.

Balancing creativity, form and function with sustainability, handcrafted furniture by Artifex Interiors is at once beautiful as it is practical. Each piece reflects the pride and care with which it is handcrafted – a future heirloom to be used, loved and lived with for years to come.
