Sea Nereids | By Lauren Esplin

In Greek mythology, the Nereids are sea nymphs, the fifty daughters of the 'Old Man of the Sea', Nereus. Unlike mermaids, nereids appear fully human and do not manifest scales or a tail upon contact with water. Drawing on this story and her Greek heritage, Lauren captures female figures exploring an underwater world in her painting ' Sea Nereids'. The abstracted coastal landscape is impressionistic and portrays a feeling of calm and a connectedness to nature. The free expressive brushstrokes juxtapose the finer details of the women, a signature of Esplin's art.
